ThunderThumbs: Off the Wall & "The Dude"

THUNDERTHUMBS: OFF THE WALL & THE DUDE

Two iconic albums. One outstanding live band. An evening of timeless soul, funk and disco.

Join Thunderthumbs at The Civic as they celebrate Michael Jackson’s landmark Off the Wall (1979) and Quincy Jones’s The Dude (1981), performing songs from both albums in a show packed with classic grooves and unforgettable melodies.

Thunderthumbs take their name from the legendary Louis “Thunder Thumbs” Johnson, one of the greatest bass players of his era, whose distinctive playing features on both albums. Formed to celebrate the music he helped create throughout his remarkable career, the band pay tribute to the man behind some of soul, funk and pop’s most memorable basslines.

Led by acclaimed UK session bassist Phil Mulford, this ten-piece band brings together a wealth of musical talent. Between them, its members have performed with artists including Beyoncé, Lionel Richie, Ariane Grande, Whitney Houston, Quincy Jones, Incognito, Shakatak, Joss Stone and Tom Jones.

With powerful vocals, a vibrant horn section and an irresistible rhythm section, Thunderthumbs bring these much-loved recordings to life on stage. The band have been delighting audiences across the South of England for more than a decade, with appearances at London’s 606 Club, Pizza Express Live in Holborn and the Bull’s Head in Barnes.
