Julie Dunn Quartet

Come down to @TheCafé for the Julie Dunn Quartet featuring Andy Christie on guitar, Pete Maxfield on double bass, Paolo Adamo on drums, plus guest saxophonist Paul Weimar. Experience fresh arrangements of jazz standards and originals.

Enjoy unique arrangements of jazz favourites by Cole Porter, Sonny Rollins, Harold Arlen and more, along with Julie’s originals including Mangled, an homage to Wardell Gray and Annie Ross’s Twisted; Selfie Song, a gently satirical nod to today’s culture of narcissism; and Waiting Room Blues, written after being forgotten in a doctor’s surgery, triggering recollections of everyday frustrations enthusiastically shared by audiences wherever it’s performed.

Born into a family of singers and music lovers, Julie formed her first jazz band in the 1990s after completing an MA in Performance Studies specialising in Jazz Improvisation and Vocals.

She recorded her debut album Strange but True in 2004, featuring several of her own compositions and Andy Christie on guitar, alongside other top South West UK musicians. This was followed by two acclaimed album collaborations with Dankworth pianist and arranger John Horler, featuring virtuoso Tony Coe on sax and clarinet and Paul Morgan and Alec Dankworth on double bass: What’s It All About on 33 Records, touring the South West UK with funding from Jazz Services, and Out of This World on the Diving Duck label.

Julie has a beautifully appealing sound — Norma Winstone
