Cricklade Town Hall

Cricklade Town Hall, High Street, SN6 6AE
Heritage
We start this tour at the Town Hall. This was built in 1933, in a style reminiscent of the architect Voysey in an Art Deco style, and houses a replica of a 16th century Italian painting called "The Five Graces". The original was presented to the hall in 1945 and recognised only 50 years later as a valuable old master of the school of Caravaggio. It was subsequently sold at Sotheby’s in 1993 for £68,000 and helped raise the funds to renovate the building and purchase the replica painting. The Annexe building was built in 1958 to give greater facilities, and the Town Hall is used for the Councils' Annual Meeting, various clubs and activities and can be hired. For further information see the website.
The building originally used by the Council, but not owned by them, was sold in 1933 to Ockwell’s, the glove factory. Please turn right out of the Town Hall Car Park and on your right you will see the next heritage building, which is the Old Weighbridge.
